i’m a little excited about the new additions to my etsy store…

(i think because this owl family reminds me of halloween..)

(a vintage toy sewing machine, that works!)
along with some new odds and ends, a HUGE (and perfect) 1960’s pity-kitty print, vintage cards and some old “silver-screen” style peignoirs.
the end.

browsing my favorite turn-of-the-century school turned antique mall, i came across some things i could not turn away, including paper ephemera, vintage ribbon, and a little chalkware dog.

the lil’ pitbull pup was too cute (postcard from 1908) and the thanksgiving card has a very spooky halloween night feel.

another victorian postcard; i love the pig. and the ribbon on my hand-made board is my other find.

a new little mascot who oversees my crafty-work.

when i saw him i just had to get this fine-looking deer, and i got him for $30! what a steal! i named him baxter.
when i was walking through the antique mall and to my car, i got several comments on him. i guess it’s not every day you see a girl walking down the street carrying a giant deer’s head, eh?

and look how well he fits in with the lot:

perfect!

Capgras delusion is a rare disorder in which a person holds a delusional belief that an acquaintance, usually a spouse or other close family member, has been replaced by an identical looking impostor. The Capgras delusion is classed as a delusional misidentification syndrome, a class of delusional beliefs that involves the misidentification of people, places or objects.
The delusion is most common in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia, although it can occur in a number of conditions including after brain injury and dementia.
This case is taken from a 1991 report by Passer and Warnock;
Mrs. D, a 74-year old married housewife, recently discharged from a local hospital after her first psychiatric admission, presented to our facility for a second opinion. At the time of her admission earlier in the year, she had received the diagnosis of atypical psychosis because of her belief that her husband had been replaced by another unrelated man. She refused to sleep with the impostor, locked her bedroom and door at night, asked her son for a gun, and finally fought with the police when attempts were made to hospitalize her. At times she believed her husband was her long deceased father. She easily recognized other family members and would misidentify her husband only.
Fregoli delusion, or Fregoli syndrome, is a rare disorder in which a person holds a delusional belief that different people are in fact a single person who changes appearance or is in disguise. The syndrome may be related to a brain lesion and is often of a paranoid nature with the delusional person believing that he or she is being persecuted by the person he or she believes to be in disguise.

Perchta was spoken of in Old High German in the 10th century as Frau Berchta and thought to be a white-robed female spirit, or later, a more malevolent spirit. She was known as a goddess who oversaw spinning and weaving, like myths of Holda in Continental German regions, and she was sometimes the leader of the Wild Hunt.
January 6, the Twelfth Night was once known as her festival day (replaced by Epiphany in Christianity, because christians rip-off every holiday and make it their own). The festival included a feast of traditional foods of gruel or dumplings and fish.
Perchta is reportedly angered if on her feast day, the traditional meal of fish and gruel is forgotten, and will slit people’s bellies open and stuff them with straw.
In the folklore of Bavaria and Austria, Perchta was said to roam the countryside at midwinter, and to enter homes between the twelve days between Christmas and Epiphany (especially on the Twelfth Night). She would know whether the children and young servants of the household had behaved well and worked hard all year. If they had, they might find a small silver coin next day, in a shoe or pail.
If they had not, she would slit their bellies open, remove stomach and guts, and stuff the hole with straw and pebbles.
